Every website should have a defined goal.

Not only that, I believe that every website should align with a defined direction which provides a focus for awareness of the meaning of our actions. This direction might more specifically relate to you, or your organization, wherein the website fits as a project or process that develops towards greater fulfillment of that direction. And it is this constant awareness of the greater context for our actions that allow goals to transcend from just a "todo" list to truly rewarding action every day.

Just my 2c. :)
